Serving Brooklyn's Off-Leash Community

PUPNIC 2009

FIDO's Summer Picnic for Pooches & their People

Did we beat out the thunder storms this year?

How about the good news first!

Given the weather forecast, it was a slightly smaller crowd than usual which meant... More food for everyone!

Sheep Station Cafe & Bar whipped up a huge platter of Orzo that would have made even a Kangaroo burp while Queen Italian Restaurant and Laura's Gourmet Restaurant went for their own world famous Italian dishes. Park Slope's Long Tan not to be outdone, provided mouth watering Thai specialties.

The Pot Luck People brought contributions based on the name of their dogs e.g. letters A through G , bring an appetizer, salad or bread.  If the dog’s name began with an H through P, bring a small entrée. For letters Q through Z, a dessert
.

FIDO provided the soft drinks and water while the Prospect Park Special Events Staff set out a dedicated off-leash area in the adjoining meadow (as if any dog would stray more than twenty feet from a table of food)

It was a time well spent with old friends... both human & canine!

Needless to say, no appetite was too small...

And FIDO doggie taste testers gave thumbs up.... errr tongues down for Yoghund Organic Frozen Dog Yogurt, imported all the way from Manhattan by Diane West of New York Tails Magazine.

Bring on the games!

Agility...

Mary Jane Monahan provided agility equipment and BASIC training tips such as : "...don't go backward over the jumps!"

Biscuit toss....

Once last year's "biggest foot" winner, Denali, finished his long winded speech welcoming all the contestants, the assembled went at it with a vengeance!

But you didn't have to be an iPhone Geek to tell which way the storm clouds were blowing in from New Jersey. The biscuit toss ended in a quick tie and co-winners, Mary Jane Monahan & Katie Maxwell (as well as everyone else) skidaddled for home! What had taken an hour to set up was crammed into waiting vehicles in the space of fifteen minutes - as well as a number of slow moving stragglers.

We had a fun time with the most special group of people in all Brooklyn, Prospect Park's dog owner community!

A big WOOF to everyone...
